There are very few organizations in all of the nonprofit world that have had as much impact as the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). You know them if you’ve ever seen the breast cancer pink ribbon. Their mission? To rid the world of breast cancer.
The organization was founded by Evelyn Lauder in 1993. Lauder, the daughter-in-law of makeup giant Estée Lauder’s founder, decided to use her money and public influence to fundamentally change the fight against cancer. Lauder and her partners at BCRF believed that funding was the key standing between breast cancer and a cure.
And that belief has remained BCRF’s driving force after Lauder’s 2011 death. Myra Biblowit, the President of BCRF, was a close friend of Lauder’s – and she leads the foundation today with the same attitude that Lauder instilled. “We work with anyone who will come our way, we co-fund, we partner … We’re serious about what we do, we welcome support, and we promise results,” Biblowit says.
Included in those results Biblowit speaks of is the TAILORx study, which recently concluded that tens of thousands of women with breast cancer don’t need chemotherapy.
