A Comforting Caregiver After Cancer
- Comedian Kathy Griffin, 61, says her husband, Randy Bick, 43, has been making sure she’s eating proper food as she heals from post-lung cancer surgery complications.
- Prior to Griffin’s cancer battle, she faced some pretty serious depression due to the aftermath of her posting a gory image involving former president Donald Trump. She was fired from a CNN show and became “canceled,” as the network and other companies had no choice but to reprimand the star, despite political affiliations.
- Thankfully now in remission, the survivor’s health and career have been on the upswing, despite these setbacks. As always, it is imperative to report any symptoms to your care team after a surgery, including any issues with depression or anxiety. Healing from cancer is not an overnight journey.
“Husband is making all gluten free stuff for awhile while my stomach gets better,” Griffin announced with a photo of the delicious-looking meal prepared by her “chef,” who works as a marketing executive.

Friends of Griffin also supported the ailing Grammy winner with a special delivery of a silky, baby blue-hued robe from La Perla, a luxury lingerie brand.

The bestselling author has had her fair share of ups and downs after finding out last August that she had stage 1 lung cancer. Thankfully, now she is in remission, but has been having a variety of issues since her surgery: vocal hoarseness, swallowing issues, and now stomach problems.
"I had surgery, you're not going to believe this. So, I've never smoked, but I got lung cancer,” she told Jimmy Kimmel during an appearance on his show late last year. “In August, I had half of my left lung removed. I'm not even kidding.”
"They put the intubation tube too rough on my vocal cord, so now I'm like Minnie Mouse meets Marilyn Monroe," she joked, as she gave her best Marilyn-style "Happy Birthday" routine. Since her late-night show appearancewhere Kimmel referred to her as “remarkably resilient”the comic has performed stand-up at a couple of L.A. events, but hasn’t been able to commit to a full tour yet as she continues to heal.
Griffin also discussed the joys of being “uncanceled.” A few years prior to her cancer battle, she got into some hot water for posting a picture of herself with a fake, severed head of Donald Trump, which, needless to say, led to uproar from the right, and while the left applauded her “art,” she understandably had to be reprimanded. The outspoken comedian was fired from CNN from their New Year’s Eve program that she was set to co-host.
In the wake of the aftermath (though she even re-posted the photo a few years later), she admitted that she started misusing pills and fell into a deep depression. While cancer isn’t exactly the greatest pick-me-up, it woke her up to seizing the day and living her best life, which she has been doing until this setback. Luckily she has a loving husband, solid friends, and is back to being her “uncanceled” self.

Healing from Lung Cancer

While Griffen appears to be listening to her body with these recent symptoms, she has also appeared to be back to her active self. Keeping active and overdoing it are two different things.
Getting proper rest, light exercise when feeling up to it, and eating a nourishing diet (which she looks like she has covered) are important elements of your healing journey.
