Dr. Elizabeth Jewell

Gyneologic Oncologist/Director of Surgery
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Dr. Elizabeth Jewell is a gynecologic oncologist and surgeon at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She is also the Director of Surgery at MSK Monmouth and MSK Basking Ridge in New Jersey. She specializes in the care of women with cancers of the ovary, uterus, cervix, or vulva. She provides diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for women with gynecologic cancers.

Whenever possible, she uses minimally invasive laparoscopic or robotic techniques using the da Vinci® Surgical System to help patients with ovarian cancer recover faster and have cosmetic results, and she also performs robotic and laparoscopic surgery for uterine cancer. If ovarian cancers are advanced she performs radical debulking surgeries to remove as much cancer as possible. During these debulking procedures, it is often necessary to also operate on the bladder, intestines, and other upper abdominal organs.

She is involved with the Gynecologic Oncology Group a national group conducting quality cooperative research at many institutions throughout the country  — and she is a member of the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Committee. She has ongoing clinical trials in intra-operative imaging in gynecologic cancers.

Dr. Jewell completed her fellowship at Duke University Medical Center where she received professional and teaching awards. In 2009, she joined the staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering and has grants to perform clinical trials. She is a member of many medical societies and the author of peer-reviewed scientific articles.
