“I Still Have a Life”: Emily Garnett’s Survivor Story
Emily Garnett was diagnosed with stage four, metastatic breast cancer at age 32 — three days after her son’s second birthday. She and her husband had planned on having another child soon. But after Emily’s diagnosis, which was treated with targeted therapy and hormone replacement, she went into menopause. Emily says the diagnosis was devastating at first, and ripped a hole into a life she and her husband felt was perfect. But she’s overcoming the obstacles that come with cancer because she realizes how much she still has — even though she’s living with the disease.
“At some point I just said, I’ve got to keep living,” Emily says. “I have a 2-year-old, I have a husband, I still have a life … it became a rebirth for me.”
