Lynn Brooks is grateful that her husband sprang into action after her ovarian cancer diagnosis. The San Diego resident says that “Mr. Hyper Researcher” urged her to get second and third opinions before deciding on treatment. “He was my rock, my lifeline,” she says.
The couple flew up to Stanford for a consultation. Then they found another doctor in San Diego and got another opinion. "We wound up going with the University of California, San Diego," says Brooks. "We're very fortunate to have so many great cancer centers in this city."
Read More Brooks says she's lost a lot of friends to this disease, and her advice to anyone who's diagnosed is to always get a second opinion. "I did that, and I feel that I at least made an educated decision about treatment," she says. "And go to a comprehensive cancer center where they’re going to think outside the box," she adds. "Late stage cancer is risky, and you want to have the best minds on it."
