No Reason For Shame
- Abby Lee Miller shared photos, that many thought were too graphic, of her recovering from a second spinal surgery.
- Fans commented on Miller’s post and shamed her for posting the photos, saying they were inappropriate.
- Miller was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma in April 2018 and suffered complications from her first spinal surgery. She’s used social media as a way to share her physical progress and recovery.
Miller shared a series of photos of her laying in a hospital bed following her second spinal surgery. She’s currently at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for the operation, and possibly as a way to cope, shared a few photos post-surgery that some of her fans thought were a bit too graphic. The photos are certainly not for the faint of heart, as they show severe bruising and surgical scars. The photos didn’t go over well with fans, and many immediately commented on her post by shaming her for sharing these images.

Some fans may not like these photos, but when it comes to coping during a very difficult time everyone has a different approach. The last time Miller had spinal surgery was under very serious circumstances. She was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma in April 2018, and had her first spinal procedure as a part of treatment. However, she suffered complications which left her bound to an electric wheelchair. Since the procedure, Miller has been attending regular physical therapy sessions to build back her strength, and hitting major milestones in the process. It’s unclear why Miller is having yet another procedure, but it’s important for her fans to remember that support is key in making sure she stays positive during recovery.
It’s So Important to Get Emotional Support
Miller is definitely known as the villainous dance coach on Dance Moms, but that doesn’t give anyone an excuse to shame someone for finding ways to cope. Emotional support is not only necessary during cancer treatment, but also during recovery. Sometimes, survivors can struggle to find a way to find themselves again after going through cancer, and that’s why they need a support system to lift them up.

This was the case for Carrie Kreiswirth, who still struggled with coming to terms with herself after beating breast cancer. She wanted to, but in order to regain that sense of normalcy, she needed her friends and family. “I’m so grateful, and I can’t stop expressing my sense of gratitude for the support system that I have, and for my family, especially, and for my friends,” Carrie tells SurvivorNet. “I wanted to be me again, but I also needed their help.”
Even though friends and family can be your best personal cheerleaders, sometimes it’s not easy for people to open up to them. If that’s the case for you, support groups and counseling can be great resources in order to talk through your emotions. Through support groups, patients can connect with those who are currently, or have gone through, similar experiences and understand what you’re feeling. For people who don’t enjoy talking in a group setting, one-on-one counseling serves as an entirely confidential place for you to express yourself.
