This Housewife Gets Real
- NeNe goes went on Twitter to voice her upset anger over comments made by Andy Cohen and Wendy Williams.
- The reality TV star helped her husband through his battle with colon cancer last year.
- She stood by his side throughout the journey, and all the way to the end his final cancer surgery. He survived his cancer and is now in remission.
Leakes announced her departure from the show that made her famous in early September. That same day, Cohen posted a picture of the two of them together, and wrote a heartfelt note of praise honoring Leakes and her personality. He called her, among other things, "an icon of the genre. She is a gif and catchphrase machine…"

Leakes was understandably hurt by the comment, and reacted swiftly on Twitter, taking low blows at the pair discussing her career potential. Calling Cohen a racist and a master manipulator, and alleging that Williams had a drug problem, neither host were spared her barbs.

Leakes also called herself an "Icon" in her online grievance airing, and claimed each of their shows had low ratings. We have to wonder, will these media waves rock the emotional boat for her cancer survivor husband, Gregg Leakes? But maybe it’s not worth getting so upset over this type of thing, given all they’ve been through. They likely no longer sweat the small stuff anymore.

Interestingly, Gregg and NeNe married, then got divorced, then re-married each other! It's clear her commitment to him and his to her was hard-won, worth fighting for, and that they are in it for the long haul. She stood by his side as he battled cancer last year. Thankfully, a cancer-free Gregg means many more years of memories together.
Gregg's Cancer Journey
Last year, Gregg Leakes, 65, announced that he was cancer-free, after being diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer (the same kind of cancer that actor Chadwick Boseman passed from).
He completed his final cancer surgery last year, in May 2019, and remains cancer free.

Going into the last surgery, he wrote on Instagram:
“Going into Final Surgery. Happy day having my port removed. Thank you Jesus for watching over me. Thank you world for your prayers and well wishes. Leggo.”

Gregg and wife NeNe have used their post-cancer family time productively, by marching in protests this summer to support social causes, like Black Lives Matter. NeNe noted on social media the risk posed by Gregg and herself marching, saying:
"My hubby and I both was afraid to comprise our immune system considering his past cancer and the blood clots I had in my lungs! However Gregg really felt he wanted to get out and try for a few and let everyone know that no matter what, we stand loud and proud!"

Screenings for colon cancer are important so that the disease can be fought early. This disease originates from abnormal lumps, polyps, growing in the colon or the rectum. The polyps must be removed, because otherwise, they may turn into cancer. Screenings can detect polyps early before they become cancerous and, thus, potentially life-threatening.
