All of us learn from our experiences and from insights passed on by others. It’s especially true for doctors. While it’s hard to teach qualities such as empathy or “bedside manner,” many really great doctors have learned by example. For Stanford oncologist Dr. Jay Shah, some of that mentorship has come from Dr. Stephen Hahn, Chief Medical Executive at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
"[Hahn] is the prototypical healer," says Shah. "Without laying hands on you, he has this ability to make me and I'm sure his patients feel protected and cared for, and that goes farther than any injection from any syringe."
