Immunotherapy has generated significant breakthroughs in the treatment of several cancers, but it has not yet been widely effective in breast cancer and it is not a standard of care. There have been some recent trials that paired immunotherapy with chemotherapy and also with targeted agents that have shown some potential in treating the disease. In particular, early trials suggest that immunotherapy may be more beneficial for triple negative breast cancers.
Clinical trials across the country are now looking at how to make breast cancer more susceptible to immunotherapy.
