Mental Strength
- Good Morning America news anchor Robin Roberts, 60, is a go-to for uplifting content, and constantly enlightens her followers with her “Motivational Monday” and “Wednesday Wisdom” mini-segments on social media.
- On today’s “Wednesday Wisdom” and prayer message, Roberts discusses the importance of “getting your mind right,” which can be particularly important while going through cancer, but obviously a must during any phase of your life.
- A positive attitude, whether it comes from prayer or simply determination, can make a world of difference when undergoing cancer treatment, according to a leading expert.
Roberts continues talking about that form of mental discipline by leading in prayer, saying we need to turn those negative thoughts around and using our inner power to do so, with a little help from God.
“Father, thank you that I have the power to overcome … the forces for me are greater than the forces against me,” she says. “That temptation may be strong but the power in me is even stronger … we have the power to overcome and be disciplined to do the right thing.”
“Have a blessed day, and be a blessing,” the radiant host reminds with her signature send-off.

The power of your own inner strength can seem daunting, and sometimes it takes the support of those around you to help you feel more grounded and help get you to a better place, but is also comforting to know that we absolutely do have it in us to control our negative thoughts, whether going through cancer or any other type of mental or physical battle.
Robin’s Cancer Battle
Roberts was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, and she went through her cancer battle quite publicly, too. Roberts discovered her breast cancer while on the job: She was preparing for a news story about the need for early detection for breast cancer, and she performed a self-check at home. While doing an exam on herself, Roberts discovered a lump.

"At first I thought, 'This can't be. I am a young, healthy woman,'" Roberts said after the incident. She treated her breast cancer with surgery, one of several treatment options for this disease. Breast cancer can also be treated with radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and immunotherapy. As Roberts discovered, early detection is critically important when it comes to saving lives and expanding treatment options as well.
In addition to her breast cancer battle, the anchor had to have a bone marrow transplant to treat her MDS, a rare type of blood cancer, but is thankfully past her darkest times, and now shares constant light.

Staying Positive
A positive attitude, whether it comes from prayer or simply determination, can make a world of difference when undergoing cancer treatment.
Dr. Zuri Murrell told us in a previous interview how much a positive attitude can affect the cancer battle.
"My patients who thrive, even with stage 4 cancer, from the time that they, about a month after they're diagnosed, I kind of am pretty good at seeing who is going to be OK,” he admits to SurvivorNet. “Now doesn't that mean I'm good at saying that the cancer won't grow. But I'm pretty good at telling what kind of patient are going to still have this attitude and probably going to live the longest, even with bad, bad disease. And those are patients who, they have gratitude in life."
