Actress Rosario Dawson doesn’t play around when it comes to her and her loved one’s health and safety. By now we all know that wearing a mask not only protects us from COVID-19, but also those around us. Dawson knows first-hand how important it is to be vigilant, and she’s encouraging fans to keep that in mind since wearing a mask can save someone’s life.
On Instagram, Dawson, 41, shared a video of her sporting a mask alongside a caption explaining why. “I wear this to protect you and me. #HeroesWearMasks and so it’s fitting that you wear one in the name of public safety…!” Dawson wrote.

Masks are one of the best ways to prevent you and a loved one from being exposed to COVID-19, and Dawson has experience ensuring someone she cares about is healthy. In September 2019, she revealed that her father was battling cancer and while filming TV series Briarpatch she would fly to see him in order to be there for him during his chemotherapy treatments.
“My dad has cancer right now, I’ve been leaving every other weekend for his chemo treatments,” she told People. “Yesterday we were filming and they worked it out so I could go home just an extra couple hours so I could be with my dad, and then do my screening, then come over here.”
Dawson isn’t the only celebrity caregiver who has talked to the importance of masks. Patrick Dempsey, who lost his mother Amanda to ovarian cancer in 2014, also shared a video on Instagram explaining why he always wears a mask while outside and when he’s surrounded by others.

“I’m going to wear my mask today when I go out, and I do it everyday,” Dempsey said. “Is it comfortable? No. Is it fun? No. Is it cool? Kind of. Why? Because it’s not a political statement. I do it to protect the ones I love. The people who are older — who are the most vulnerable. People who are young — who are vulnerable. People with preexisting conditions — who are vulnerable. I do this for them. Not for me. But for them. What If I unknowingly brought in the virus and then am responsible for infecting that person? If this a step I can do to make someone feel safe then I’m doing it, because it’s a beautiful day to save lives. Wear your mask please, and protect the ones you love.”

“It’s really difficult, and also really wonderful at the same time,” Justine said when discussing her own experience as a caregiver. “Because you know you’re giving your loved one the best chance they have … and I hope you’re really proud of what you’re doing everyday.”
