The holidays are tough when you’re facing cancer. Everyone is in high spirits, there’s so much to do, and so much to see – it can be downright overwhelming when you’re already dealing with the stress of cancer treatment. In this series, we asked survivors to share some advice for how to handle the holidays when you already have so much on your plate.
Jessica Melore, a three-time cancer survivor, says it’s all about perspective. “Every experience has good and bad sides to it,” says Jessica. “But you get to choose what you focus on. I had my last chemotherapy treatment the day after my birthday, and I baked a cake for the nurses and we had a little celebration.”
Jessica’s advice is to try and find joy, even in the face of major challenges. If you’re stuck in the hospital during the holidays, make a little celebration of it. In addition to our #SNHolidayHope series, we’ve also curated some holiday gift guides if you’re buying for somebody with cancer, or you’re just thinking about treating yourself. (That’s another way to find joy in the holidays!)
