'GNT' Wins the Voice as Father Recovers from Surgery
- The sibling trio band called Girl Named Tom made history by being the first sibling act to win The Voice, and they recently shared with fans that their father is in pain following surgery; he has been battling cancer since 2017.
- We don’t know the specific cancer diagnosis of GNT’s dad, but we do know that his welfare is top of mind for them, even amid their astounding success.
- It’s important to tend to your own mental and physical health, even if a loved one is suffering; you’re best situated to help them if you’re in top-notch mental shape first.
Their dad has been battling cancer since 2017, reports the paper, although they don’t say what type of cancer. The Ohio-born siblings and music sensation, Caleb, Joshua, and Bekah, moved to South Bend last year because Joshua’s girlfriend was based there.

The siblings stole the hearts of fans on Monday night with their competition-winning performance of Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain on The Voice. And the show’s host Carson Daly noted that Girl Named Tom made history as they were the first act to have four songs on the iTunes Top 10 list simultaneously.
Coping with a Parent’s Health Crisis
Despite the band’s incredible success and history-making debut, they are clearly concerned with their dad’s welfare as he goes through his cancer battle. The Twitter statement didn’t share specific details surrounding their father’s surgery and for what kind of cancer this treatment was for but we do know that having a parent or loved one go through a serious health issue like cancer can be mentally taxing.

Caring for Your Mental Health As a Caretaker
If you find yourself in the position of caretaker after a loved one’s diagnosis like a cancer diagnosis of a parent, child, or spouse be sure to “put your oxygen mask on first,” so to speak. Make sure your mental and physical health is as good and sharp as it can possibly be, so you can be the best version of yourself for those you love.

Seek help if you need it, and outsource some of the caretaking duties if you can afford it. No one expects you to manage everything your health, your loved one’s health, your career, etc. on your own. There’s power to be had in asking for help and support, even when others are relying on you.
