“I was very fit; I was squatting 600 pounds, benching 500 pounds. But cancer doesn’t discriminate,” says Ed Yakacki — when discussing what life was like before his first diagnosis. Ed has been through cancer three times — listening to him list off all the treatments he has gone through is pretty shocking. His attitude about the whole ordeal is simple, there’s nothing you can do about cancer, except try your best to live through it.
“The shape I’ve been in in the past has helped me survive my three cancer diagnoses,” Ed says. “…People that don’t have cancer just think, oh, you have cancer and you’re doing treatments. But cancer is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week job … putting my life on hold to grind through these treatments full steam ahead just like anything else … I’ve been grinding through these cancer diagnoses.”
