- It’s important to leave a legacy behind that your family can be proud of, no matter how big or how small, helping one person or millions.
“It is with the deepest regret that my family posts the following statement,” Baldwin, 64, began via his Instagram page. “Carol M. Baldwin, mother of actors Alec, Daniel, William and Stephen Baldwin and two daughters, Elizabeth and Jane, died today in Syracuse, New York. She was 92.”

Eight years later, in 1991, Carol was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Thankfully, she underwent a life-saving double mastectomy, beat the disease, and was able to spend another 30 years with her loved ones. Admirably, she also dedicated many of those years to breast cancer research.
With the support of Syracuse University Stony Brook’s then-president, she launched the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund on the university’s campus. Eventually opening another chapter at the University’s upstate location, the efforts have raised millions to this day.

"My mother taught me about second acts. And third ones, too. She spent the last 25 years of her life as a fighter and a champion for the cause to which she devoted so much energy,” Alec continued in the online memorial. “We are all enormously proud of her accomplishments."
In regards to secondand thirdacts, Alec is healing from a horrific accident that occurred last October on set of his last film, Rust, in New Mexico where a firearm prop had somehow been loaded with a real bullet. Unknowingly, he accidentally fired it off at his castmate Halyna Hutchins, who tragically lost her life. The investigation and legal proceedings are ongoing.
Needless to say, it has been a tragic time overall for the Baldwins, but hopefully they can seek comfort in Carol’s legacy and continue cherishing her personal and professional contributions to society.
