Bentley's Good Deeds
- Country star Dierks Bentley, 45, recently paid a surprise visit to a young girl fighting cancer and played a private concert for her.
- Focusing on positive, happy moments while fighting an illness can improve the prognosis.
- Bentley asked for prayers for the girl; many people find comfort in prayer amid a cancer fight.
The singer says on social media, “didn't think anything could top the recent club shows we did but that was before I got to play a private concert for my new friend Baylee Barradas. One of my hometown friends brought Baylee's fight with cancer to my attention. Sweet girl really going thru it. hard hard stuff. Could use all the prayers.”

Shout out to @kelseaballerini for jumping on a blind FaceTime call from me so Baylee could talk to one of her favorite singers. (Luke, where were you?!)””
Focusing on the Good Through Cancer
Finding happy moments, whether it’s in the presence of your favorite singer, or just in the company of your favorite friends, can make a big difference while fighting cancer, experts say.
Cedars-Sinai colorectal surgeon, Dr. Zuri Murrell, explains in an earlier interview what he’s seen when patients focus on the good and have an attitude of gratitude. He says, "A positive attitude is really important. My patients who thrive, even with stage 4 cancer, from the time that they, about a month after they’re diagnosed, I kind of am pretty good at seeing who is going to be OK.”
“Now doesn’t that mean I’m good at saying that the cancer won’t grow,” says Dr. Murrell. But I’m pretty good at telling what kind of patient are going to still have this attitude and probably going to live the longest, even with bad, bad disease. And those are patients who, they have gratitude in life.”
The Power of Prayer Through Cancer
Bentley asked for prayers for his young fan as she fights cancer, and he’s one of many who call on prayers and spiritual support while fighting an illness. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 69% of cancer patients say that they rely on faith throughout cancer treatment, and use prayer as a way to call for good health.

Reeves says, "If I had one piece of advice for someone who had just been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, it would be to get a strong support group together. Get your close friends. If you're connected to a faith community, get your faith community. Get your family. Let them know what's going on and let them help you. And sometimes that's the most difficult thing to do, but just know that they are there. If they love you, they're there to help you."
