Support for "Stumptown" & Smulders
- Cobie Smulders, 38, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at age 25
- Her TV show Stumptown was canceled by ABC this week
- Fans on Twitter have praised the show and Smulders, and they have started a petition to save the show
Ovarian cancer survivor, actress Cobie Smulders, is a fighter – and the news of the cancelation of her ABC crime dramedy, Stumptown, isn’t going to take her down. (The actress, 38, survived her cancer diagnosis after being diagnosed at the young age of 25.)
The show is based on the eponymous graphic novel series by Greg Rucka, and chronicles the adventures of Dex Parios, a quick-thinking, strong, witty Army vet with a complicated romantic life. Her mental prowess makes her an excellent private investigator and an unorthodox crime solver.
Entertainment Weekly reports that due to “timing and scheduling issues” ABC is not going through with a renewal of the show for a second season. Smulders starred in the show alongside actors Michael Ealy and Jake Johnson.

Some suggested that Stumptown find another home, à la The Mindy Project‘s jump from FOX to Hulu, or Arrested Development‘s departure from FOX to Netflix. Who knows – maybe there’s hope for Stumptown yet?
A petition was started by fans on Change.org, calling to #SaveStumptown. At the time of this writing, over 1,000 supportive fans have signed the petition. The creator of the petition, Rebecca, writes on its page: “In May, ABC renewed the freshman show on their network. Today, September 16th, 2020, they decided to ax that decision and cancel it instead. This show deserves a shot.
ABC cited reasons related to COVID-19 but the fact of the matter is, the rug was pulled from under the cast and crew. It would be a perfect addition to another network or a streaming service.”
With the love and support of fans backing Smulders and the rest of the show’s cast and crew, there may be a turning tide. Time will tell. Support is something all survivors need – in their battle and beyond – and it’s amazing to see Smulders get the support she deserves.
