Sarah Paul — the child, adolescent and young adult program manager at CancerCare, an organization that provides free support services to anyone affected by cancer — says that it was her sister’s fight with the disease that led her to her career.
“My sister was diagnosed with a rare lymphoma, she underwent very serious chemotherapy treatment for about six months,” Sarah says. “She’s been in remission since 2001. Watching my family suffer emotionally, I really want to give that comfort to families now. We really put a lot of our energy into the cancer community because I felt like she was one of the lucky ones … and I wanted to give back.”
Sarah says that one of her main goals at CancerCare is to make people feel less alone. “We definitely are there to provide guidance and support and really listen in a time when they might feel isolated or lost,” Sarah says. “My favorite part about my job is that I get to positively impact families affected by cancer every single day.”
